Chase Patterson

President Patterson has had an extensive and impactful leadership journey at Xavier University of Louisiana, serving as the Centennial Class’ Freshman Class President, Sophomore Class President, and Senator-At-Large before becoming the 80th President of the Student Government Association (SGA). As Freshman Class President, he successfully advocated for the lifting of the Freshman Class curfew, a significant accomplishment early in his leadership tenure.

As Sophomore Class President, Patterson shifted his focus toward addressing critical issues such as food insecurity. He spearheaded the creation of a virtual food request form and an electronic volunteer form for Vincent’s Vault, the campus food pantry. Additionally, he developed a food insecurity report that was presented to the Board of Trustees, which led to the 78th SGA President successfully extending dining hall hours.

During his junior year, Patterson ran for Senator-At-Large to tackle organizational challenges within SGA. In this role, he achieved several milestones, including securing an annual rollover for the SGA budget and establishing the Student Safety Advisory Board. He also created the Senate Judicial & Rules Committee to enhance officer accountability and revitalized the Student Supreme Court to improve the system of checks and balances. Patterson introduced Senate Memos, a new type of legislation designed to keep students informed about changes and improvements, and he set a record for passing the most legislation in SGA history, with 12 pieces.

As SGA President, Patterson is driven by a mission to eradicate the culture of complacency among students, faculty, and administrators, while fostering a more productive future for Xavier University of Louisiana. His leadership vision centers on fully integrating the student body into the improvements he strives to make, ensuring a more engaged and inclusive student experience. Additionally, Patterson is committed to solidifying the structure and effectiveness of the SGA so that it continues to operate at a high level long after his tenure has ended.
