Our Immediate Priorities
Better Informing the Student Body
We are implementing a campus-wide texting system, utilizing smart TVs for promotion, and redesigning the SGA website to keep students informed. Additionally, we are creating an essential resource book and ensuring fee increases are communicated at least 30 days in advance. Our goal is to increase engagement by providing accessible information about RSOs on a dedicated page.
Increasing Transparency to the Student Body
We aim to increase transparency by advocating for the public release of the university's fall budget, conducting open Executive Board meetings, and publishing monthly reports and financial statements on the SGA website for all students to view.
Increasing Xavier's Community Engagement
Our efforts to engage the community include inviting local high school students to Xavier athletic events and executing the semester-long X-Marks the Ballot voting initiative, which encourages civic participation among students and local residents.
Implementing Cost-Saving Practices for the University
We are advocating for cost-saving initiatives such as installing motion sensor lighting, smart sensors in public buildings, and implementing a food waste reduction program, all designed to improve sustainability while reducing operational costs.
Aiding Where We Can in the Mental Health Crisis
We are focusing on improving spaces for fellowship, adding positive affirmations around campus, completing a housing improvement project, reducing financial burdens, and partnering with local businesses for student discounts. Our aim is to create a supportive environment and advocate for a Wholistic Students’ Wellbeing Policy.
Improving the Academic Experience
We are working to amend academic policies, including those related to credit transfers and the drop policy for health reasons. Additionally, we aim to improve academic advising, extend library hours during exams, and ensure non-STEM majors feel equally valued.
Improving the Performance of SGA Officers and Student Leaders
To strengthen the effectiveness of SGA, we are creating bylaws, amending the constitution, and implementing compensation for non-executive officers. Additionally, we are introducing executive-board-specific tests for elections and chartering the Big 5 Council to enhance leadership accountability.
Increasing SGA's Funding Opportunities
We are actively seeking ways to increase revenue streams, particularly for events like homecoming, to ensure that we have the resources necessary to fund activities that benefit the entire student body.
Alleviating Previous SGA Financial Process Issues
Our team is working to implement a p-card management system and collaborating with fiscal services to streamline the university’s financial processes, making it easier for student organizations to access funds.
Increasing Student Engagement in Events
We are developing a strategy to minimize conflicting events, improving the student experience through athletics, reopening concession stands at athletic events, and amending tailgate policies. We will also host monthly Executive Board events to engage students and build community.
Successfully Advocating Student Concerns & Requests During the Term
We are committed to advocating for students by addressing concerns related to parking, housing, and campus shuttles. We will host a University Townhall, push for shuttle tracking, and ensure refund check disbursement times are communicated effectively.
