My family and friends, esteemed faculty members, and my fellow students, I stand here truly humbled under God, and truly grateful to each person that has supported me and challenged me as it has all prepared me to accept this position as the President of the Student Government Association. I thank President Kennedy Carey-Prescott for her service to the Student Body and her leadership throughout this unique year, whether most of the students noticed it or not, but also the support that she has shown me during this transition.
Today marks not only the inauguration of a new administration but also the dawn of a new era at Xavier. As I stand here, I am very aware that we are in the midst of many challenges. There is a mental health crisis plaguing campuses across the nation. There has been a lack of accountability within our own student government. Overall student engagement has been dangerously low, and many majors outside of STEM have continuously felt under supported. I will attempt to tackle all of these challenges but let me be clear. I cannot face them alone. I will need help from every single one of you to create a more just and humane campus so that we all can move the world towards a more just and humane society.
Contrary to popular belief, it is crucial to emphasize that our student government is not an elitist organization of figureheads. We are here to serve you, to amplify your voices, and to champion your causes. But again, we cannot do it alone. We need your support, your ideas, and your active participation to bring about meaningful change. One of the fundamental principles of our administration will be active student engagement. We recognize that true progress can only be achieved when every voice is heard, and every perspective is valued. We will not simply wait for change to happen; we will actively seek it out, meeting our fellow students wherever you are and serving as a bridge between your aspirations and the administrator’s ears.
Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions as our mission it to reimagine, but together, we will create an environment that removes limitations and dismantles barriers. This administration will show you that the glass ceiling is not a barrier but a reflection of our limitless potential. We will empower all of you to help our university reach new heights. As we stand on the cusp of the Centennial Year, we have a unique opportunity to shape the next 100 years for Xavier. It is our responsibility to usher in a new era, one defined by proaction, inclusivity, and excellence. Together, we will reimagine what the culture of this university looks like, ensuring that it reflects the diversity and true spirit of our student body.
I want to finally thank you all for providing me with this incredible honor and entrusting me with such responsibility. But now I’m going to entrust all of you with a greater responsibility to complete what I've asked from each of you. Spinning off the words of President John F. Kennedy, I need you to ask not what your university can do for you, but what can you do for your university. Thank you. Let’s look forward to a great year.
